Muhammara (Turkish Red Pepper Spread)

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 2-3 large roasted red peppers, rinsed
  • 1/2 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 1 large clove garlic, crushed
  • 1 tbl extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tbl lemon juice, or to taste
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • saltĀ 

Recipe

1. Toast walnuts in a small dry skilletĀ over medium heat, stirring until fragrant (2 to 3 minutes). Transfer to a small bowl and let cool.

2. Combine all ingredients in a food processor and process until smooth. Adjust seasoning with more lemon juice and salt, if desired.

3. Serve on toasted pita bread or sesame crackers.
